Her mentor provides small, actionable insights that she can easily apply to school and sports, which has been so meaningful for her. One of my favorite examples is their ‘banana pancakes’ mindset—an inside joke they created to help her laugh off mistakes and refocus. Over Easter, I noticed she had written ‘banana pancakes’ on the side of her lacrosse stick as a reminder to reset and move forward. It’s such an incredible tool for resilience!

We saw an increase in our son’s confidence. I think that Better Together helped him realize that even these athletes he looks up to are dealing with similar emotions (being nervous and handling mistakes). Our son started saying how he just needs to grind it out, which was huge! I think he didn’t see all the work that goes into reaching that level of athleticism. It was also really helpful as our son just got to learn about lacrosse and watched a bunch of films with his mentor. So he was also learning the sport!

I just wanted to share some feedback on the Athletes Better Together program that we learned about through 4Leaf. My son has been meeting with his D1 mentor since the end of April, and the sessions have been incredibly beneficial. This mentorship has strengthened his mindset and helped him navigate the unique pressures of his position.
